OUR BEGINING

HISTORY


It was on March 15, 2001  that SI-Sapang Palay, the 7th  and then the youngest Soroptimist Club in Bulacan South District was chartered with  SI- San Jose del Monte, SI-Sta. Maria and SI-Pandi as its mother clubs.
Six (6) active members from SI-San Jose del Monte were transferred to SI-Sapang Palay namely : SI Ma. Felisa “Neneng” C. Camino, SI Linda Nepomuceno, SI Cresencia Sabado, SI Mayette Ocampo,SI Ma. Gina L. Patena and SI Lilia Catabui. Together with other thirteen (13) new members, Soroptimist International of Sapang Palay (170203) started with 18 charter members with SI Ma. Felisa “Neneng” C. Camino as the Charter President and SI Angela Silayro as the first President-Elect.

On August 2002, during the term of President Ma. Felisa Camino, SI_Sapang Palay received SIA Womens Opportunity grant amounting to $10,000.00 for its “BAHAY KANLUNGAN” project, a temporary shelter for women and girls who are victims of domestic violence and abused children   was operated with the LGU and Rev. Rogilio Cruz. The BAHAY KANLUNGAN has served a total of 30 beneficiaries. They were provided with various program and services like Health, Education,Home,Life and Legal Assistance while at the center. The 24/7 staff was assigned by DSWD including technical assistance.   The “Bahay Kanlungan” catered and provided legal services to more than 30 benefactors.This project was sustained until 2008. 
During the term of President Ladisla Felices, the name of the club was changed from SI – Sapang Palay to SI-San Jose del Monte, district II.As per resolution and duly approved by SIPR and SIA as well. It was also not worthy to maintain that our club has run the HUMAN RIGHTS award during the Biennial Conference held in Boracay,Aklan.           
In year 2008 to 2010, during the term of President Ma. Gina Patena, the club received the Most Outstanding Club (Top 6 ) and Most Outstanding Club (Top 5) respectively.           
During the term of President Lyn Mier 2010-2012, The club was granted of 3,000 WOA award name Karen C. David and is now enrolled 2nd year BSHRM  a 4 year course at Colegio de San Gabriel (CDSGA) at Sapang Palay Proper, City of San Jose Del Monte Bulacan.          
The club has a continuing impact project, Human Rights Violation entitled as SAGIP KARANGALAN: of which 15 girls received as beneficiaries. Some of which are raped victims and human trafficking. The club was recognized  as nominee GAWAD MEDALYANG GINTO AWARD and declared as winner of the most prestigious award as “Natatanging Grupo ng Kababaihan” from our local government in City of San Jose del Monte Bulacan. Honorable  Leila de Lima of the Department of Justice handed the trophy and plaque of appreciation to SI-SJDM District II.            
It was in 2012 during the tenure of President Nida 2012-2014, when the club had an impact project entitled Alternative Learning System Academy whereas the project was able to produced its oldest ALS Scholar namely Feliciana Pascual, a 72 Year Old widowed woman who strived hard to pursue her lifelong dream of finishing her studies. The project was also featured at ASAP(a variety show at ABS-CBN Channel 2) in a segment entitled “With Love Gary V” on April 3rd of that same year. 
In 2013, SI SJDM II had an official seat at the Local Development Council of San Jose del Monte Bulacan. SI SJDM II was one of the 40 out of 100 accredited organizations of the said city to be part of the council.           
Additionally, it was during the time of President Nida Nicolas 2012-2014, the club had a back-to-back win on the Women’s Opportunity Awards. Cristine Jularbal took Business Secretarial Course while Mary Ann Defensor took Information Technology both at Holy Family International College. The former was the 2013 winner while the latter was the 2014 winner.          
Meanwhile, it was in the incumbency of President Nida Nicolas, wherein the club’s candidate namely Sister Rosalia Cervantes won the prestigous Unsung Women’s Heroes Awards. It was the first time when the club won at the said award.
